French house music/complextro

So, I have for some time considered writing down some stuff about what I think is the strongest and fasting moving genre in music these years. Yes, people know and love/hate dubstep and indie, but what I think people really should be focusing on is french house, by some called complextro.

Anyway, here's one amazing song.

This one is quite new, about just 24 hours old. It shows quite clearly the brilliance of the musicians, the attention to detail and sound, and it's damn funky. When I think about music, I think about movement, and this on contains a lot of said movement.

That was... interesting. It sounded to me like it was house mixed with the bayou. Which unless i'm watching true blood i prefer to avoid. Just too much "twang" (or is that a harmonica?) for my taste.

I have never heard french house called Complextro. Complextro is the name given by Skrillex and such fans for that sound believing that it is oh so complex and multilayered because of the wubs and yayayahs going on, when it clearly isnt complex at all.

Also yes, that is a harmonica. This one might be more to your liking, less "twang"

I have never heard anyone call the "music" Skrillex makes for complextro. French house and glitch music is what you normally would call complextro. You are right, that it's because of the "complex" sound, but by no means does the wubs and yayayahs play part in that.

It has to due with the mixing, but mostly with the slicing, which is done quite a lot by french house musicians. In particular, you'll notice it in the way the "hook" at 2:21 is composed of slices of both voice, harmonica and guitar. Also in the start of the song, when it begins really moving, you can hear a piano slice too. It's throughout the whole song, but those stand out.

This is not french house. French house is not complextro. Just because a genre uses samples to a similar degree does not mean that the two have much in common.

Edit: in fact the record sounds more like solid disco house to me than anything. Not much going on in the sense of "filter house". Anyways - messing with genres is.... messy. Nobody really knows what the fuck is complextro or progno or techno. What one person considers as clear as light&day the other sees as nothing close to his perception of music. Not that complextro or progno is a genre.
