yo,
so I am studying in my first semester right now and I was able to pick up English 1 as an extra course. The english class is about talking infront of people, in english. With this we learned how to do proper presentations (body language, start, middle, end, etc.).
Luckily I had no problems with either of these things, talking infront of people or speaking english (internet with skype ftw).

Our grade will be made out of one single presentation which has to be 10minutes, about anything we want.
No wonder the subject I wrote down was "Progaming in South Korea" for my presentation.

Now, this is only going to focus on BroodWar, as that's not only where the progaming scene in SK came from, but also as that's the game I love;)

However, I haven't followed the Korean scene too much myself until this new PL season (which I mainly follow because of Sayle's casts) and personally I haven't followed the standard BW scene until about 5-6 years ago, anyway.

As the examination regulations only allow oral exams if they are at least 40minutes long and our teacher doesn't want to make us talk in english for 40minutes we will also have to hand in a paper of only 2pages which will be given to the examination people as count as the exam (they won't even check that, so it doesn't matter too much, the grade is only given for the presentation).

My problem here is my lack of following this korean progaming scene and that I don't know all of the details about it, I've read some about it in the book 'The StarCraft Bible' which I will use as a source for this, but the book also hasn't everything in it.

For the presentation itself I am going to talk about gaming in general first, building a bridge to the audience and talk about how RTS gaming has evolved (taken from 'The StarCraft Bible') before I headstart into the korean StarCraft scene.
What I want to talk about then will be bigger events, when did progaming teams get formed, the kind of sponsors that were interested and joined later on, the TV channel dedications, the korean army creating their own team, the attendance of audiences (size) and I also want to show some small clips which show the excitement of the crowd.

Here is what I actually know, if you guys could help me finish this list with anything that's missing, that would be great

Bigger events:
- I only know about this one picture on the Beach (what was it called again?) which had tons of people in the crowd. I could need details about this event, who played, what was it (PL I believe?) and how many people did attend to watch the match?

When did Progaming teams get formed and who were the first bigger sponsors and later ones (like the Telecom for example), I don't know anything about this, tbh.

TV channels: MBCGame, OnGameNet were the two main channels and also formed their individual leagues (MSL, OSL), did GOM TV only join later or when did they get involved, how much was the impact of all of these, they also had their own teams (MBCGame Hero, OGN Sparkyz?).

AirForce ACE: When was it formed, what made them form it?

Clips: I remember YellOw vs Bisu @HBR which was quite exciting and the crowd went crazy, what other really amazing clips are there? Maybe riboribo, plaguu? Commentators and crowd going crazy would be the best.

Salary: How much do the progamers earn (S-Class, A-Teamers, B-Teamers).
What I remember was NaDa getting a 3year contract for $600k some years ago, if I am not mistaken?
I think I also read about the minimum being around $20k per year for the "worse" players. On top of that they also have no expenses, anyway.

Yes, my knowledge about all this is sadly very limited. Only providing links about these subjects where I can read it up myself is also more than fine.

I once held a small (less than 10minute) presentation about BW without actually having any proper knowledge about it around 5years ago where I got an A, so another A thanks to BW would be amazing;)

I believe it was Pusan beach for the first question
Free vs Hiya would be a good game as well but I don't think anyone would understand the excitement of nukes and lockdowns.
You have to realize that most people won't have any clue what the hell Starcraft is and making them watch some video where things blow up probably won't achieve the desired outcome.

And on that last part, yea you got an A probably because you presented it well. No teacher is going to take points off because the content is shitty.

Another pretty epic moment was BoxeR's perfect SCV rush against YellOw-- that whole series was pretty cool imo.

that's not something to put into those 10minutes, imo;d Can't explain the game to them. I just want to show them the excitement of the crowd when things happen.

If you want to show excitement, I would go for an OSL finals. Make sure to get some crowd shots in, and some moments when the audience and the commentators go crazy. For example, in the Ever OSL 2009 finals, mOvie vs Flash, when mOvie warps in a lot of stargates to go carriers.

maybe you can show stork vs best at incruit osl. crowd commentators go crazy at beginning when he plants 2 proxy inbase gateways, gas steal at 640ish, and also when he gets off a crazy reaver shot 11 minutes in. also at the end when stork win crowd starts cheering his name.

well, while your questions are very, very valid, and you'r trying to provide extremely accurate information, i hate to think that your examiners won't be interested in all the intricate specifics. then again, being overly broad will show a lack of effort.

all i actually 'know' is from boxer's autobiography (http://boxerbiography.blogspot.com/) where i believe he talks about the forming of the first progaming teams and how he was selected to join one. he says that the top players of ladder were all invited into leagues and the teams which first formed with little or no sponsor support. team houses were created, and then it all skyrocketed from there. you may want to do a little research on which were the sort of original teams, and how they were taken in by major corps. i remember GO which was the team of xellos and others, POS which tuned into MBC's team i believe. the rest of the teams i have a shoddy memory of.

i believe you could source boxer's biography for the up-bringing of pro-gaming and how he himself has affected it. or you could compare him to the many other progamers who were rising to the occaision. a progamers salary was most definitely negotiated on contract, and many who performed well in individual and pro-league matches asked for raises as the seasons went on. i believe boxer was the first progamer scoring a 200m won or $200k salary back in 2002/3 or so when he first joined SKT1.

it's interesting that what started out as so niche, became a gigantic niche, and here we are today :_)

yes, I want those facts to show the development and how big it managed to become even though being "only a computer game".

Thanks for the Stork vs BeSt vid, that's an awesome crowd

thanks, I will look into Boxer's biography over the next weeks.

The Bisu versus yellow clip that you where looking for, if you explain how much yellow was an underdog in this match, it could be useful.

hm, I remember once reading something about the comparison of the amount of viewers coming to the 2005 Pusan Beach finals and the superbowl of that year with the PL final (if it was a PL final) having more attendees? (maybe also due to capacities, but still).

progaming started because of pc bang owners and clans in starcraft, the first ever televised match is on Nevake youtube channel I believe, and airforce ace was formed with Boxer, but I do not know the details.

The SKY 2005 PL finals had an attendance of 120,000. In 2004 it was 100,000.

As for teams, SKT was formed in 2003 and KT in 2002. ACE was formed in 2006 mostly because Boxer was entering the military.
