I really enjoyed Strange Mercy, but then I had no expectations at all (never listened to St. Vincent before) so yeah. I would recommend Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 2 based on what you listed

I would recommend you listen to the Tom Waits (nothing mind blowing but a solid addition to his discography) and relisten to Bjork (it is quite good but took a couple times to grow on me).

Good call skipping James Blake, I don't like his new stuff much at all.

For something new I recommend Emika's album that came out on ninja tune.

the title says new music you listened to but you have 2 categories of music that you didn't listen to, i'm confused.

Just listened to gang gang dance (eye contact) after reading this blog and I must say the album is really really good. Thanks for mentioning it!

Bill Calahan album recommended (single America)

Groove Armada - black album (not sure if 2011 or 2010, album of cover music)

I love the last PJ Harvey album, the last Fleet Foxes album is boring as hell.

Cool blog 5/5

I loved Helplessness Blues, but I could see why someone couldn't get into it.

What do you think of The Roots - Undun? I was pretty impressed when i listened to it for the first time.

Thursday - No Devolucion - CUTE!? That album is soo good. You crazy man. And I rather liked Strange Mercy.

Music is all subjective anyways though, so to each his own.

Of all of the Good and Kinda Good my favorite was Nicolas Jaar and least favorite Gang Gang Dance. Of the GGD songs I listened to there was just way to much energy for me, it was kinda stressful. any recommendations of songs I might have missed that are really good?
I get it.

Bro, I am mega-disappointed. You haven't given Steven Wilson's Grace for Drowning a go yet? You haven't the right to win-up music for the year yet.

wasnt familiar with Thursday beforehand. The album is very good though I've wondered why they are grouped into kinda heavy genres, screamo, etc. despite having no growling and often almost a prog/alt sound than emo.

Glass Jar is pretty good but yea GGD and Nicolas Jaar are almost opposites. A softer GGD song on a previous album:

Thursday is post-hardcore/alt whatever until No Devo, which is oddly heavy on keyboards. IMO it sounds like they were going for a Leaves Turn Inside You vibe (reach for the stars). Shame they broke up, they were showing some promise.

The King of Limbs was weak. Really weak.

Kate Bush's new album sounds just like Kate Bush (a good thing) BUT I feel no need to own it right now.

Kashiwa Daisuke's 88 was dull. I want Program Music II

Tao of the Dead is too long and noodily and aimless but it's still my favorite ToD since Source

New Ampere which sounds exactly like old Ampere (grow out of screamo and 98% of it becomes intolerable, including Ampere)

WTF Australian music!

The Jezebels - Prisoner
Kimbra - Vows

If you like them what are your thoughts on Gotye? his latest album is my favourite of the year by a country mile.

It is not often I hear foreigner's having any idea about Aussie music, particularly stuff that isn't that well known.

Kimbra is a talented singer and lyricist, but sometimes her songs have this generic pop/r&b production feel. I like the more sparse tracks on Vows, "The Build Up", etc. The Jezabels are amazing, much better than the National or any other NA bands they are compared to. "High Violet" sounds downright monotonous compared to "Prisoner." Not sure why they received no press outside of Aus.

Wow didn't know Thursday broke up just a week ago, very bizarre. Haven't bothered with Radiohead in a while. Kate Bush album is okay. I didn't even like Source Tags & Codes , gave up on the band after that album. Don't know the others mentioned.
