1) Create an objective.
It is great to have friends. If becoming popular is your goal, you need to know how you will get to know that you are popular. If you're trying to join a starcraft 2 clan/team you probably need to have a decent amount of skill. At a minimum try to be in the same league as the majority of the clan. If you're trying to join a frat you should probably be tall, dark, and handsome and have a semi-hot girlfriend so that way the guys recruiting you may think they have the chance to sleep with her when you're drunk/passed out.
For the sake of TL we're going to pretend you're trying to join a sc2 team/clan.
2) Understand the methods of successful people.
Once you have your objective clearly in your mind, proceed to check who is popular in that particular area and what they are doing. Who are the better players on the clan/team? You want to make sure you do your research and find that out because if you have any sucking up to do, it's to them! Lets be real, you suck at starcraft and you want to join a semi-decent team at the least... Find out who their star player is and order him a pizza!
3) Be Confident.
Everyone has some flaws. Don't let that stop you! Even if you feel that you just aren't good, keep believing. Love yourself and believe in yourself. Don't sit in the corner. Get up, and get into the spotlight. Don't worry too much about yourself. Play games with everyone non-stop. People like a guy whose motivated to just play some games.
4) Be willing to step out of your comfort zone.
Be willing to step out of your comfort zone. Ask the best guy in the clan to play a bo7 show-match with you, even if you know you'll get face-raped. Everyone in the clan will most likely want to watch because their all on the #1 guy's dick and in a bo7 YOU MIGHT do something semi-spectacular and get that one "ooh-ahh" moment that you need to impress them.
5) Be friendly.
Be friendly, every clan has "that guy" that everyone loves to hate on but keeps around for the sake of having someone to hate on. Be nice to him! Even though nobody takes him seriously and for the most part hates his guts, if there is a clan meeting and he says he thinks you're an awesome guy the others might agree simply to get you to turn on him.

?6) Have good style.
Don't be fucking with those 6 pools, banshees, or 4gates right off the bat with the new clan your trying to join. Back in the day if some kid was trying to join my team and just did some stupid cheese build to get the "gg" I'd be heated and definitely not put my vote in for him. Win your games against you're new prospective team-mates straight up but throw some fun in it! Warp Prisms/Carriers, Battle Cruisers, and...never mind all Z units are ridiculously good. If you're Z don't try to have style just don't fucking 6 pool ok? Good.
