My First Tournament!

It was a gold/plat event with no prize, and just over 64 people showed up. Since I only just recently started my third week of SC2, I didn't expect to do very well, even with the skill cap. I decided I'd declare victory if I made it through the single-elimination first round.

I made it to the quarterfinals undefeated and got 2-0ed by a protoss - 4gate that I forgot to make units against (like really, that's what happened - I scouted it and then I pumped drones) and DTs killing all my workers because I didn't have detection like I shoulda. But hey, I made it to the quarterfinals! It was a lot of fun, it was a good experience playing with something more on the line than ladder points, and I met some cool dudes.

was it the zeek tournament? and anyways congratz my fellow tler. You make me want to join another plat/gold tournament but i have no time..

Good luck man just keep on going its an awesome thing tourneys and you did much better than i did my first time destroyed haha hopefully ill see you in a tourney one of these days. =]

Yeah, it was zeek, but player-run, not one of their official ones. Big shoutout to meris for getting the thing organized.

Nice job! I always encourage my lower league friends to sign up for lower league only tournaments. It lets them see the magic of competitive starcraft at their own level. And gives them a break from getting cheesed on ladder :p

Just found out about amateur tournaments so I tried 2 over the last 2 days. Played in the Grubby Jersey Cup yesterday...and got matched against a Masters player (I'm platinum). PvP 4 gate battle and he was about 2 seconds ahead of me, so he won. Today played in an ESL Gold/Plat cup and should've won but my mechanics slipped due to my hands shaking from nerves and I lost quite stupidly first round. I'm out of practice but this has got me back into playing and I look forward to trying again soon. I want that first tournament win!
