So I just got an ipod Touch (4th gen) for my birthday and I'm trying to decide if I should keep it. I've got a freebie phone (LG Xenon) that does what I need it to (make calls, take pictures/video, take notes, etc) and I have an ipod nano for music. Which begs the question of where an ipod Touch would come in.
So as far as I can tell it's basically an iphone as long as you're near wifi and that doesn't make calls. Since I just recently got laid off from my job in NYC I'm not sure how often I will be around wifi outside of my home in which case I would use my desktop for most of the stuff I would even think about using the Touch for. The Touch is also considerably larger in size than the Nano so I think if I had a choice of which to use strictly for music I would go with the Nano.
The only thing that I thought might be useful is the HD camera which takes way better quality video and pictures than my existing phone, probably even better video than my fairly old camera.
Can anyone think of any other reasons to keep the Touch given what I already have and there is a good chance I'm not going to be around wifi outside of my home?

eh, i would still keep it for entertainment in car rides, or waiting in lobbys for something. there are tons of free somewhat mindless apps like angry birds, or somewhat less mindless such as.. um... well yea, you get my point lol.
Additionally, the touch screen is very nice, and since it is a 4th gen ipod touch, you can just transfer the music from your nano onto your touch.
if that doesnt sound good for you though, i guess you can sell it

Just kidding. Honestly, I'd keep it, partially because it's a birthday present, and I feel guilty easily, and partially because it's just nice to have, it has video, etc, can play music, and if your nano craps out, it's good to have a backup/replacement.

Reasons to keep IPod touch:
1. Poop games. That is, games to play while taking a crap.
2. Yeah that's about it.
Seriously though, keep it. If you're strapped for cash and have something you would rather spend the money on, then you can sell it, but until then, have fun.

Download a bunch of free games into it, and you have an entertainment platform. I also used mine to check email, twitter, and other stuff when there is available wi-fi.
Oh also, it plays music.

You should try to sell the ipod touch, the ipod nano and your mobile to get an iPhone.

There are a bunch of free books in the store you can download when you are near wifi, then read them later on bus/train trips. The iBooks app. That's pretty much all I use mine for, other than occasional pictures.

Seriously -- wi-fi, particularly free wi-fi, is nearly universal in any urban area. Find yourself a McDonald's or Starbucks and surf away.
Try exploring for what you can use this thing and I think you'll find it's a lot more useful than you think. I mean, it might not be insane to consider selling it, but I suspect that it was given to you in the hope you might appreciate it and use it, so I say give it a shot.
