Hi guys,
I was just lying in bed when I started to think of an old game I played quite a long time ago... probably late 1990s/early 2000s, although I can't give an exact year because I was pretty young.
My memory of the game is crap, but I'd love to check it out now and see what it's really like because I only got to play the demo at a friend's house. Here's stuff I can remember about the game:
- I think it was an RTS, or at least a strategy game in some way... I don't think it was turn based.
- There was some element of mining that went on, perhaps involving gas as a currency (no, not vespene gas ). At least one infinite money hack was available.
- There was a demo version of the game given out.
- Clans existed in the game to some extent, but I dunno if clan support was built in.
- I believe multiplayer was the focus, and a game took place on "islands" if memory serves.
- I think flying man o' war jellyfish were a unit in the game.
- EDIT: Forgot to specify that it's a PC game although that was obvious, I guess. Also, it was isometric.
Any of that could be me getting this game confused with another... I wish I could remember more. :S
Anyone got any ideas? I've looked about for quite a while for the name of this game, and found nothing... gamestop's list of RTS games didn't seem to help either, but then, I didn't know the name of the game
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help a fellow nerd out, and sorry if there's a thread for stuff like this, I honestly couldn't find one.

Sounds like you were playing Brood War while you were high.
It wasn't Warcraft 3 was it? It had naga who had flying manta rays as a unit IIRC

Warhammer jumps to mind but I don't think its what you're looking for
|
100% definitely wasn't BW or WC3, I've played and know both of them.
Don't think it's Warhammer, either
I think this is a pretty obscure game.

Might it have been the decidedly mediocre 'This Means War!' from Microprose? I don't remember if there were any flying jellyfish units, but it was an isometric RTS that fits a lot of what you're saying above.

Total Annihilation? Or maybe Battle Realms
|
Wasn't "This Means War!", atrox, total annihilation or battle realms
Although looking at atrox reminded me (for some bizarre reason) that the game I'm thinking of was definite more sci-fi than historic, and was definitely futuristic.
Thanks everyone for trying. I'm starting to think I'm going insane.
I'm not totally sure that the jellyfish thing was indeed a unit in this game, but I feel pretty sure that it was.

Besides "I think flying man o' war jellyfish were a unit in the game." it sounds like you're describing almost every RTS ever made, so it is a bit difficult.
The first game I thought of was Red Alert: Command & Conquer 2, but I doubt that is it (mainly because the game was so good I would hope people would remember it!)

That is a list of all the RTS games released in chronological order. Should help.

You are a fucking god :D Can't believe I missed a wikipedia list :D
The game I was looking for was indeed on there.

I knew it as soon as I saw it. Looks like there's still a scene for the game, too, I'm totally downloading it and taking a trip down nostalgia lane.
Also, I wasn't going insane, Man o' wars were in the game:

There you can see a "man o' war pool" used to make them.
Thanks so much guys :D

EDIT:
Ah, sorry dude, we got it at the same time Thanks anyway :D

Hah, awesome man. That is a great feeling I know ALL too well, especially from years of playing at arcades as a child.

Yep. When you said 'islands' and 'Jellyfish' I remembered immediately Netstorm. ^^ Great game. But I never played online...(chicken!!!)
