I bumped the most recent thread but I feel like it won't get many responses at it was a personal thread rather then a general. Most of the threads found functioned that way so hopefully I can get some of that help.
Currently I am in the market for a budget pair of earphones. I was shooting for sub-40$ but it seems like there is a lot more options in this range while still being decently priced.
As for musical tastes, I listen to pop, rock, and classical in that order. Sprinkle in a little bit of electronic, kpop, and rap.
So the budget came from my first possible set which is the etymotic mc5s for 67$. Huge plus here is the sound isolation. Not sure how well these work with my listed genres so maybe someone could enlighten me. I also want decent durability. I've broken several headphones without being too aggressive with them. My previous 10$ set randomly stopped working last night. I want to invest a little more money for a lasting product. Microphone or several accessories aren't necessary.
I don't know which brands are particularly reputable except from reading a few reviews. Thanks for any help you can give!

Seinheisser, also I personally carry around Bose if you're willing to pay the premium that's added on with the name.

Right now I am using the Sennheiser HD201's: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD201-Lightweight-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B0007XJSQC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1310703836&sr=8-4
They are cheap as hell, and pretty robust as well. Sound quality is decent too.

I wouldn't recommend the triport headphones from them though. I had a pair and although the sound quality was good, it ended up breaking after a few months just from casual use. Not really all that great for $100 imo, I find BOSE to be too overpriced.

Buy these and you wont regret it.
I got a pair year ago, and now two of my friends have gotten them too. I've been producing electronic music for ~5 years now and these things sound AWESOME. One of the friends that got a pair prefers them over his 150+$ monitor phones, and he also produces music. They are a steal at 70$ and at 46$ its crazy.

Actually got 2 pairs of headphones that still work fine.
Earphone is for when I'm going to class or don't want to hear shit around me. Will check out the sennheisers. One of my headphones are sennheisers though I don't use it much.

I also use a pair of Sennheiser HD201's and they sound great. My pair have been going strong for over five months. I also like the fact that the wire is pretty long. For their price you can't go wrong.

For the price of the etymotic mc5s, I'd buy them without hesitation. I've been using the ER-4Ps daily for nearly 4 years now. As long as your music is good quality, it will sound good. They really do show up bad quality encoding/production.
Also, be careful if you're going to use them while walking around anywhere with traffic. That isolation is no joke.
