So i suppose i should start by saying i'm a competitive fps gamer. Ive played competitive cs 1.6, quake, css, and CoD in australia for a long time. I knew lots of people across all games and was pretty well connected before starting this.
So it first started when my old CoD4 friend/captain of team i used to play on told me he was restarting the CoD4 team. Long story short, i figured, we may as well make a multi gaming team. We both had good friends playing CoD:BO competitively at the time in a team, and we figured we could start with the two CoD's and move on from there.
So it started. Team Elevate was the name, the name our team had been playing with for about 3 years on the Aus CoD scene.
First thing first, well what WASNT there to do at first? Luckily we had a friend who was running a smallscale gfx design website. He helped us out a ton at first. Before we knew it, we had wesbite logos, sigs, and a website designed.
At about this time, another friend of mine tells me abotu his hon team, i figure this guy's team would be really serious about it and figure we may as well pick up his hon team, i also decide to grab some friends from my state in Australia to reform a css team for LANs. We also managed to pick up a GM sc2 player, but he is going inactive for exams for the moment. Moving along nicely.
So next we need servers. Vent, game servers, and a website host. Fortunately that wasnt too hard. The guy who did our gfx design/website had a friend who was opening up a newish server hosting website in aus. But we needed a way to promote ourselves and a reason why they should sponsor us, and the obvious reason why companies sponsor gamign teams is for advertisement.
So we open a youtube account and get a few views with 2 pretty poorly edited videos, we put forward our plan for the team, to the server hosting company previously mentioned, luck would have it that at that time, the company was looking for a main team to sponsor and we snag it. Vent and game servers are on their way, the website is up immediately. This was a result of a decent plan, good connections and more good connections and rep amongst the aus gaming community.
Shortly after, our brand new CoD4 team wins the MSI one day competition in their teir two. We release a much much better editing blops frag movie and things are starting to get settled.
So this is where we stand now.
Im going to keep you guys updated on how this little experiment goes. Chip is with any help/tips or w/e you might have.
The struggles to come are: Increased views of our website and youtube channel, recruiting more teams in major pc games, and getting our teams ranked higher, winning more tournies and attending LAN events.
We're working on a youtube skin/background thing, need to fill out the website some more too, and we need to fidn ways to support our sponsors and appeal to more sponsors later down the track.
Shameless plug/for your interest:
http://www.youtube.com/user/TeamElevateGaming - Youtube account (yes i know the first 2 vids are kinda crappy editing, we needed to rush a vid out and it was the guys first ever vid edit, we just needed to prove we could get a couple views.)
www.elevate.pubgs.com - Wesbite, still needs lots of filling out and spelling mistake fixes and a proper contact email.
www.pubgs.com and http://www.defect-designs.com/ (defect is redesigning website so the websites not fully up atm) - These are our current sponsors.
Any of you guys had a similar experience to this? Thanks for the read and any tips! <3 will keep you updated!
