This is a song that I've worked on on-and-off for six months or so. Part I (0:00 - 3:22) is a very soft, smooth soundscape, where I played with a few of filters over the main sound to create what I think is a really cool new sound. In Part 2 (3:22 - 6:06, I ended up doing a lot more and it ended up sounding pretty cool, but I have no idea how to describe it (I'm bad like that).
The thing is though that the lead parts for each section were written within two days of each other, in the first week of writing the song. But, like I said, I've been working on and off on this piece for 6 months. So, what the hell?
What happened is that it just sounded bad and I couldn't figure out what. I tried adding all sorts of different sounds, but it just felt empty. So for the last 3-4 months I've just been coming back to the same song and doing basically nothing.
What changed is that I fiddling on my bass and came up with an awesome bass riff, and I instantly knew it would fit in Part II. This is the first time I've recorded my own playing into a song, and I think it came out pretty well - although the very last bass riff (5:59) took for fucking ever to get it clean enough to record. Tapping on bass ftw!
