Hi all:

Due to ~real life~ time constraints, so I can't put up a full bait--so this is a quick update.

For those unacquainted with scambaiting, it involves engaging email scammers in dialogues and convincing them to do stupid stunts, fill out ridiculous forms, and in general waste their time for amusement and internet justice.

This guy, Pedro Williams was convinced to fill out the Moneygram Anti-Terrorism forms, which of course are required for every transfer.

Similar, Mr. Prince Mensah filled out a gold exportation form, required by the Department of Commerce:

Lucky Edgal approached me about some fund to be delivered by DHL...I've now got him involved in an arms deal for rifles for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lil' Wayne to fight off the Nazgul in Ontario, Canada. Other entities involved are the Kane Consultants Home for Wayward Celebrities and the Mouth of Sauron.

So...yea. Here's a document I convinced the scammer to write:

This guy is my longest running bait (over 4 months now!). I've got him fully convinced that internet hackers have hacked his email inbox and so in order to make the transaction safe he has to photograph himself with the account information...

I've tried unsuccessfully to get him to travel to Benin (from Nigeria)--but that doesn't mean I've given up!

And this is Captain Alfred, who also was involved in an arms deal that went sour. Mostly because he wasn't getting paid. Some of his lines, however, are comedy gold:

I DONT POINT OUT ACCUSING FINGERS, THEY KNOW WHERE THEY BELONGS.

please dont send money to that account, i have not been well since i was taken treatement..

god will distroy him [another one of my characters] for spoiling my personality..

i dont want to talk much we where supose to be talking on other species, as new things you will love just arrive in our base.

This is quite funny, but displaying such personal information on the internet ?
I can't find this to be right. Unless its all untrue.

I would assume it is untrue, it would be unwise for a scammer to give away their real info.

I almost felt bad, but then I remembered, they don't feel bad.

@Camb - Yes.

@nttea - Charity scammers are the worst. And there's a lot of them due to the tsunami.

At the risk of stating the obvious, any spam email that solicits funds for Japan relief efforts is most likely a scam, doubly so if Western Union money transfer is suggested (even if the receiver is in the US).

Mr. Katashi Tomako, claiming to be a Japanese aid worker but *strangely* has a Nigerian IP, has considerately agreed to fill out these UN charity forms.

Working on getting his bank account information so they can be reported to the relevant authorities.
