Hey guys. I hope this isn't a mindless thread..
So ever since Starcraft 2 came out, I always played Terran (even on fastest maps in SC1, I played Terran). I don't know whether it was the mechanics of playing Terran or because they had uber awesome siege tanks but it was always very alluring. But playing on Ladder on low diamond enraged me because I could not win at all against Zerg and against Toss, it was 1/3 win. And playing against Terran was a coin toss. Losing so much got boring to me because I always got so nervous on ladder playing against Zerg and Toss.
Eventually, I just started to play more team games like 2v2 ladders with my girlfriend and took a long break from 1v1 ladder matches.
That was until two days ago, I decided Toss was going to be my next race! And what a great change it was! I went from being scared to play against Zergs into rolling them over! Of course, it may have been due to me watching some 3k+ diamond replays of Toss players, but I did the same for Terran! I have no idea what it is that grabs my attention so much more about Toss play (maybe it is because I haven't lost in like 5 games) but I must say, I feel like playing Toss is much more fluid. For instance, I don't have to wait around for SCVs to finish building things, which was always an annoyance for me. I also love how toss units can warp in from proxy pylons. Unlike Terran, you can steadily reinforce units via a proxy! I think the best thing about playing Toss however is the hotkey for warpgates. Without that hotkey, I don't really know if I'd be as good as I am with Toss. I have learned to play much more aggressive with Toss as well with timing pushes and I don't know if I'll ever go back to playing Terran.
So if you guys ever decide you are in a rut with your race, don't give up and rage quit. Try the other two races out! It kind of rekindled my love for Starcraft II again. :D

I switch between Terran and Random quite a lot, but I usually just end up staying with T because I'm never confident in how to actually play the other matchups properly haha. Plus about 80% of my random games end up in ZvZ's.

Good advice. I'm a diamond Protoss, but recently I switched cold-turkey to random. My rating is tanking, but I'm having fun!

I hope my new optimism in playing Toss isn't because I'm luckily winning against people. I have yet to learn a solid build order for Zerg so that's why I don't play random. Going from Terran to Toss was probably a good learning process since I know now if I go back to Terran, how Toss play. If I never won with Toss, I probably would not have stayed with it. I made sure to read up on build orders, watch replays, play some custom practice matches on Shattered Temple, then hopped on ladder.

Hrm... i actually did that. Was a little bit frustrated with terran too, and played zerg for a week, like i always do when things get boring. Besides rocking zvt (probably because i know what would annoy the hell out of me as terran) i got rolled over by pretty much every toss i met, because I lacked the experience to react properly to what the protoss players did to me.
Made it sooo much nicer to play terran again :D
(And also injected a lot of respect to decent Zerg players into me who have to cope with lots and lots of more 1base-stuff than i normally have to )

Playing the other races definitely helps with understanding how they work and helps a ton for the main race you play. When I first started playing random right after release (I only played terran in the beta) I remember it opening my eyes a ton on just general understanding on the way the other races worked and I think it helped me improve my Terran play a lot because of it too. Good luck with your other race adventures! :D

i switched to random once when i was in platinum i think. it took one zvz and one tvt to convince me i couldn't do it or that it would require me to invest more time than i could. i actually won that zvz though lol. i thought it would be quite frustrating too if you really lost rating doing it and had to play your former main against people who would be less skilled. that said i'd like to properly test my rubbish zerg and terran out on the ladder on their own skill level but i'm certainly not going to hold my breath for blizzard to give us multiple accounts

Its funny u say that. Ive had the exact same experience so far. As soon as the ladder resets im going to switch to toss for awhile, then zerg for when it resets again.

Just switched to toss from terran a few days ago. Who knows if it'll stick but I'm having a blast

Ya, I play toss, and absolutely love toss, but I just find the way zerg is played is fun. It's funny though, I go from like 70-80 average apm to like 130-140 playing zerg. I am like what the hell, why can't I have a fluent 100 legit apm as toss . I understand there is more to do as zerg, but if I can have a legit 130+ apm as zerg, theoretically I should be able to have a 100+ apm as toss?
I am probably only a plat lvl or so zerg player, as I don't know many openers and or match ups. But, getting your ass kicked every once and a while.

Whenever I get bored I just play random..... Or go and watch BW haha. But seriously it is quite a bit of fun trying out other races. Unless you suck at playing Zerg like me...
|
To be honest, I tried all 3 and protoss seemed so much un appealing to me. Maybe because it had ridiculously easy mechanics or I just did not like how it worked. But I started playing zerg when game was released now I am playing terran now.

If you ever get bored go play Random in 4v4s and mass some absurd unit. Learn how powerful the hellion really is >:3
