Alright so I have 2 weeks to get to know XNA, Silverlight, and Windows 7 Phone OS for this competition:

The problem is that my computer is a single core 2003 dell thats running xp. It's 2.8ghz, 1.25 G ram. It's not terrible for it's age. I'm wondering if I should just find a copy of Windows 7 and install it here, buy a new computer ($300 tops) or build a new computer. My ideal situation is to install Windows 7, but I don't want to buy it, especially if I can buy a computer with it installed that's multi-core + better everything for $300. THe best option then seems to build a computer, but I've never done it, and from what I can imagine will take far too long to be of any use with my limited schedule. Any takers?

There are other means of getting Windows 7, depending on if you're ok with it morally, it may be your best option.

It takes less than one hour to assemble a computer if you know what you are doing; if not, 3 hours max (including trivial debugging).

Your problem still remains even if you choose to build your computer: you won't have Win7. If you are enrolled in a university, you are probably eligible for free copies of the OS through the academic alliance program.

Yeah. I could just use it for 2 weeks then uninstall it ;P I'm just curious if my computer would handle 7. The integrated graphics processer (?) is bad , wouldnt even let me install sc2 (no shader 2.0) so.. is that relevant?

Yeah it didn't make sense but I think the point was that I can build a way better computer than whats for sale on kijiji for $300 for the same price. I hate to throw things away. I think i'll just try to get Win7 on here.
