Valentines day is coming up and many of you will no doubt be stuck with the stressful task of pleasing your partner with bundles of love. For you it may be planning a surprise candle lit dinner, or a night of snuggling and love making. Who knows. I however, face a dilemma: distance!
My girlfriend is far off in Dubai for the next 3 months and will not be able to spend Valentines day with her. I need help Teamliquid, I need some ideas and advice on how to go about this as I have never done long distance like this before. I'm thinking of sending her flowers using a site like: http://www.sendflowerstodubai.com/?gclid=CLLvt82w96YCFUVqKgodpn_5BA
Do you think this is a good idea, or too typical? I fear flowers are a little typical, as well as the possibility of them not being delivered in time. Have any of you ever sent flowers to someone overseas before?
Also, I'm a little paranoid about handling money online. I've never used Paypal before and I don't know how secure it is and whether or not I should be cautious about handing out credit card information and such. From what I've read from googling around, it seems safe enough for ordering, but I'd like to hear some advice from people who have dealt with similar international transactions first hand. Any help would be appreciated.
What are your plans for Valentines day?

Personaly I'm going to be playing starcraft on valentines day.
As for you I'd reccomend doing her over the internet with web-cam sex. My older bro does that all the time with his gf from back home when he's off at college and can't do her in person.
|
Depends on your girlfriend, but in my experience, no matter how cliche it seems, girls always seem to appreciate flowers.
|
No idea when that day is but I'm probably gonna watch/play some stuff.

Send her the flowers, she'll go nuts. I sent flowers to a girl in another city once and I didn't stop hearing about how romantic it was until I broke up with her.
You should also send her a very romantic letter or package of some sorts, on top of setting up dinner over skype (her time) where you'll be dressed up and as gentlemanly as you would be if she were actually there with you.
EDIT: To answer the question that was asked...we've got school all day, so I'll probably start off by filling her locker with romantic notes and small gifts, then rush her off to dinner at a quiet but very nice restaurant, then bring her on a walk to where our first date was (if the weather permits it) then swing back to my place for some "coffee", where I will have prepared everything ahead of time to create an atmosphere and a night that she'll never forget.
I love valentine's day.

pay a surprise visit! how romantic would that be?
|
You absolutely cannot go wrong with flowers - flowers can never be too typical for 99.9% of girls. Better late than never so send em now - seriously. Apart from that just send a heartfelt letter and that will be enough for most girls on valentines day - oh the skype date too do that.
Paypal is as safe as ur gonna get online - use it.

I would sing to her, and upload it to youtube, then send her the link in the note with the flowers. But of course I sing too good. Sadly I have no GF

Wow Silvered Skin you are a beast. Its people like you that make me look bad and worry about how much effort I'm putting in =p. These are good suggestions and I'm feeling better about the idea of sending her flowers. Problem with the Skype date is the time distance, but otherwise I'd totally go for that.
I would like to visit her myself, but unfortunately circumstances don't really permit it as I have work (not really good for me to take a 1 week vacation since I'm an intern student), otherwise I wouldn't have to worry about doing something special

Send/give her a Valentine's card with a handwritten message about how much she means to you.

I think a handwritten letter means a lot more than a batch of roses, as the former requires considerably more thoughts and effort. Flowers are for lazy people.
I'm going to take a flight and visit my GF a few days after V-day, should be good

Are you Korean?

Flowers are a great idea. Every girl loves flowers, no matter the age or situation.
|
E-card it and call it done.
|
Flowers and chocolate if possible, I mean thats probably the best you can do long distance =/
Anything better then the pajamagram.
|
Don't do something special because it's valentines day, doing something a day early because you love her. I guarantee it'll mean alot more (might require explanation)

LOL easy peasy.
Well coming from a girl, flowers never fail Perhaps give her a stuffed animal or something that would remind her of you that she can keep close to her because flowers will die in a week lol A hand written card is also sweet !!

Oh god, you know there's something wrong with the world when you see guys saying "you think this is too typical?"
I'm going to tell you right now, and listen carefully, the less you do *the better*. This is a RULE for gift giving. Write her a poem, send her a mix-tape, draw her a picture - something cute. If you have no talent, then go ahead and send her flowers. Just do what you need to do to let her know you're thinking about her, AND THAT'S IT!
Also, if you don't talk to her daily, late is BETTER! She'll have a day or two of wondering if you forgot, and when it finally arrives, will be that much better to her. You're not her servant, whose job is to make sure you do her every beckon; you're her boyfriend.
