New Student: Codetta
Codetta is my first Bronze student. I think it will be fun coaching him, because he should be able to improve very quickly as he learns fundamentals. He's a protoss player with about 200 games under his belt on the ladder.
The Bad:
Codetta's builds are sloppy. He'll build his core before his gas, pylons at weird times, inexplicably cancel buildings, etc. He hardly produces any probes, like most noobs. He doesn't use chrono boost consistently. He doesn't attack move and gets caught because of it. He doesn't hotkey much, and is slow to respond to things because of it. He doesn't really scout at all after the initial scout.
The Good:
He does seem to have an idea of basic openings, even if they are a bit sloppy. When he gets the opportunity, he targets probes, rather than random buildings, which I think is unusual for a bronze player. He knows how to Maynard probes properly to his new expansion, and does it in a timely fashion. He's very aggressive, which I also find very unusual for a bronze player. He says he watches the Day[9] daily. <3 Day[9]
My first task with Codetta will be to get him producing probes consistently to ensure a healthy economy (hows your eco, bro?) and to get him scouting like a mad man. This should help him feel less overwhelmed while he plays.
Update:
I had a chance to work with Codetta for a couple hours on fundamentals and he has already vastly improved. He's learned to produce properly, hotkey better, and scout throughout the game. I unleashed him on the ladder after we had worked for quite a while and the 2 bronzies he played before he had to sign off had no chance. I told him to ladder for a while and when we get together next we'll continue working on the fundamentals.
