Hello everyone,
My job has an office in Beijing which I will visit in december, I'd like to spend a few days in Shanghai because I don't know the city at all and I'm pretty sure that's an awesome place to go. I'll be in Beijing 8 days and 4 days in Shanghai.
I'll mostly be on my own in Shanghai and with a coworker in Beijing.
so I'd like to know if any TLers can give me suggestions about the places to go, things I should see (Expo of course) and so on.
If anyone is up for a beer mid-december in Shanghai, I'd be glad to do that because when my meetings are done, I don't really know where I'm gonna go get some fun !

I wish I was in Shanghai I spent five months in shanghai in 2005, one of the best experiences of my life.
I did not get into any sort of nightlife while over there, so no recomendations on that. I did enjoy some of the parks, in particular LuXun park somewhere northwest of wujiaochang (five corners) and century park in pudong. I really liked spending my free days just exploring the city, taking the subway somewhere new and walking about, maybe buying some street food or getting coffee.
Touristy areas to check out (if you're into it): of course, the Bund, XinTianDi, Oriental Pearl tower/lujiazui (financial district), central huaihai rd, etc.

Hi, There are a lot of stuffs to do in Shanghai : gardens, museums, shopping, nightclubs, etc. Sorry to disappoint you but the expo is over for already a month lol. We could of course organize a night mission to visit the pavilions before they destroy them, but they're not gonna switch on the light for us so we won't see shit.
If you only have 4 days, just stick to the usual spots : - a skyscrapper (Jinmao or Pearl Tower or WFC, the view is amazing at 450m high !) - Yu garden as well as the old town around - Nanjing Lu + the Bund
Xintiandi is really overrated, it's just an overpriced street for tourists (well you'll be a tourist too, but you're not coming to Shanghai to drink with other American tourists I presume)
How old are you ? Can you speak chinese ? BW or SC2 ?

Hey,
Thanks for the help ! I'm 26 and I can't speak chinese but I recently started Chinese class. BW > SC2 regarding games quality but I love SC2 nonetheless because the scene is very active, despite poor gameplay.

I live 1 hour away from Shanghai city center. A TL meetup in Shanghai is cool, but there will be like 2-3 people in total. Beside, I dont think we cant find a place to play SC2 in Shanghai, maybe I'm wrong though. I can go for a drink, maybe dinner as well if we can get 3+ people. 2 people meetup is kind of lame. I do speak Chinese very well. Shanghai is very good for living, not a great sightseeing city. Places that endy listed above is almost all of it.

Where are you living Caphe ? Kunshan ?
There was a lot of TLers this summer, most of them paying a visit to their family. Let's see if some other people can join us, I think Kaolla should still be around. Also you're right, there's no place to play SC2 in Shanghai. Because of the lack of LAN mode obviously.

Yes that might happen, but it would be Shanghai rather than Beijing for various reasons.

@yejin: I live in Minhang, one district of the city but quite far away from the city center. When will you be Shanghai? Or you are here already? I'm sure we can sort something out.
