In honor of Effort's great but short-lived career, I've put together a list of the best games from my favorite BW player ever.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Hyun on Battle Royal] +

Effort forces Hyun to make too many lings, gets an expo up early, then snipes his overlords. The result is a huge rape by Effort in the muta/scourge battle.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Flash on Heartbreak Ridge] +

After defending with hydras against early vulture harass, Effort displays superb Savior-esque management play and destroys Flash straight up.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Upmagic on Neo Medusa] +

Effort defends against Vulture/Wraith harass and completely rolls Upmagic.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Pure on God's Garden] +

Effort destroys nearly a whole control group of corsairs with scourge in a few seconds.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Hiya on Carthage 3] +

Pretty sure this is the game that made me an Effort fan. Excellent game sense, hold lurkers, and flanks.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Luxury on Outsider] +

Effort goes 9pool vs 12pool but it doesn't matter, he completely out muta-micros the then 2nd best ZvZer.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Guemchi on God's Garden] +

Nothing too special (except Guardians) but a good reminder of how unstoppable Effort looked in ZvP.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Yarnc on RotK] +

This is one of my favorite ZvZs not involving a non-typical ZvZ unit. Straight up but extremely good play from both.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Jaedong on Heartbreak Ridge] +
http://www.gomtv.net/classics3/vod/955

With Jaedong going 9pool and his opponent going 12 hatch, you expected Jaedong to win, especially during the JvZ era. It doesn't happen. Watch for insane ling and drone micro.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Yarnc on Heartbreak Ridge] +

I guess if you're getting tired of standard ZvZs you can skip this, but it's so high-level you won't want to.

+ Show Spoiler [vs great on Heartbreak Ridge] +

Not only a great comeback by Effort, but a rare use of drop in ZvZ.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Stork on Outsider] +

The game itself was amazing enough, but more impressive was the fact that Effort beat an S-class player in an insanely high pressure situation. In my opinion, this is Effort at his best, even better form than the OSL finals.

+ Show Spoiler [vs SangHo on Heartbreak Ridge] +

SangHo gets embarassingly raped by lings.

That's frozean by the way.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Light on Moon Glaive] +

A few months before Effort went on a huge ZvT losing streak, he was probably the best management Zerg in the world. Here's the first in a series of late 2009 Effort management play, arguably better than his mid-2009 management.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Jangbi on Fighting Spirit] +

Late game Archon/Reaver/Storm PvZ is really hard to beat, but Effort thinks anything's possible with enough ultras.

+ Show Spoiler [vs free on Match Point] +

Lurker/ling/defiler smashes free. Features Effort's signature nonstop streams of lings once he wraps up the game.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Mind on New Tornado] +

The pinnacle of Effort's management play. I remember watching it live and my jaw being open for most of it.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Flying on New Heartbreak Ridge] +

Watch it for Flying's Arbiters and Dark Archons, but Effort plays and reacts very well. I'm pretty sure his queen was accidental though.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Kal on Neo Moon Glaive] +

Kal's Archon/Reaver force was scary as fuck, but Effort beats it anyway.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Flash on Judgment Day] +

The beginning of the rivalry. Effort starts out with a huge advantage and Flash manages to defend for a long-ass time, but loses.

I don't recommend a rewatch of THAT osl finals.

+ Show Spoiler [vs Flash on Fighting Spirit] +

Insanely good mind games at the beginning, followed by a straight up rolling in the macro game.

From then on it looked like Effort knew he wanted to retire. The Flash game was the last time I felt like I was watching the truly brilliant Effort. That last series against Kal was particularly painful.

But yeah, Effort had a great 1 year run as S-class and produced some of the best games of BW I've watched. He'll be missed.

I totally agree that Effort was actually better overall in mid-2009 than when he won his title. It's a shame people forgot how good he was in 09 so quickly after his slump. His ZvT and ZvP in 2009 were so incredibly good that they're probably my top non-Savior memories for watching Zerg.

My all-time favorite effort game. That drop was just so ballsy and well-timed.

Effort never bought into the mass hydras with muta to snipe templar fad

Wat. He did that too ie http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/korean/games/35267_EffOrt_vs_JangBi, http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/korean/games/12007_EffOrt_vs_free and you can even see him do it in leaked replays http://repdepot.net/replay.php?id=37114

With Jaedong going 9pool and his opponent going 12 hatch, you expected Jaedong to win
JD did a weird variation of 9p expand so his gas/speed was much later and since he tried to hide lings (esp on map with super long rush distance as it was hbr), it bought enough time for Effort to get enough lings and have speed finish.

I'm just going to add some other awesome Effort games:
http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/korean/games/11388_Bisu_vs_EffOrt (Holding on that long on even bases with Bisu for that long was so sick)
http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/korean/games/10550_EffOrt_vs_JangBi (This game really opened everyone's eyes to his zvp)
http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/korean/games/43116_EffOrt_vs_RorO (lol)
http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/korean/games/36746_EffOrt_vs_Kwanro (more lol)
http://www.gomtv.net/classic/vod/104 (effort vs tossgirl) (lol Tossgirl :V)

Really was never an Effort fan, but appreciated him beating JD in GOMS3 and for 3-0ing Kal in the OSL semi's. Those were both pretty surprising series.

Overall sad that he's no longer a part of the scene

Fuck ya. I thought EffOrt had the potential to go Bonjwa... even though his list of accomplishments was already impressive.

I remember his Pro league winning streak... it was just insane. I was watching a lot of Brood War then and it was a great time.

You have 2 of my favorite games here, HBR vs Flash and MoonGlaive vs Light.
I made the LR thread for that Match that night (CJ vs MBC)- about a day in advance, because I was so stoked for it. The only LR thread I've felt motivated to put the proper time into.

I'll be linking this blog to many people- thanks a lot <3

My all-time favorite effort game. That drop was just so ballsy and well-timed.

It also brought on the claim from Plexa that Flash's late game tvz was "solved".
So much for that

Effort really was a great player - unfortunately we never were able to see if he could sustain it and really become one of the greats. A sad day for esports.

Day[9]'s analysis of Effort's ZvT: http://blip.tv/file/3515411

and his analysis of Effort's ZvP: http://day9tv.blip.tv/file/3534118

There are other D9Ds about Effort but they focus on his opponents more.
