So some of the irc guys and I have been discussing this idea for a bit and I want to introduce it to a larger audience to try to get some more good ideas and also to see if anyone is interested in it.

Basically here is the idea, in most tournaments, during the bo3/bo5 parts, the loser picks the next map to play on. Well, what if instead of the next map, the loser picked the next game? ("You'ze so crazy walrus!" -I know random tl guy, (or girl) but just stick with me here.)

So far we have had 2 ideas for this, and I can't really decide which is best or if there is a third that is possibly better:

Idea A:
Each round starts with a predetermined game 1 of either Broodwar or Starcraft2 (we can either choose always sc2, always broodwar, or have tournament organizer assign randomly, if you have another idea post it.)

After that game, the loser of game 1 picks whether to play sc2 or broodwar for game 2.

After that game, the loser of game 2 picks whether to play sc2 or broodwar for game 3.

So on and so forth until bo5 is completed.
(still need to figure out how maps will be picked)

Example:
Game 1:
Sc2: Lemonwalrus vs Carnivorous Sheep
Lemonwalrus wins (obv)
Carnivorous Sheep chooses Broodwar for the next game.

Game 2:
Bw: Lemonwalrus vs Carnivorous Sheep
Lemonwalrus wins (chobosheep)
Carnivorous Sheep chooses Broodwar again.

Game 3:
Bw: Lemonwalrus vs Carnivorous Sheep
Lemonwalrus wins (3-0'ed ez lololol)
Carnivorous Sheep cries or something, who cares.

As you can see from the completely unbiased and very likely example above this tournament would be tons of fun and whatnot.

Idea B:
Same as idea a except we would add more freely available games into the mix.

So like sc2, broodwar, chess, quakelive, basically any FREE game that can be played online in a 1v1 format. (broodwar and sc2 aren't free, but come on, this is the biggest english starcraft website on the net, if you don't have those games exactly why are you here?)

In this version, each player, depending on the number of games in the pool, could possibly 'downvote' a game or two each round.

This version, while more interesting imo, is also harder since maybe not a lot of people would be interested in dling a bunch of games for just one tournament.

Feedback:
So basically I want to discuss this idea.

Good/bad?

Why?

How should maps be picked?

Games to use if we go with option B?

Anything else you feel like saying?

Post below.

Also, if anyone feels like running their own tournament in this fashion I am totally in favor of it and won't bm you for stealing my idea or whatever. Assuming adequate interest I will probably run a mini tournament next weekend to test out the idea in preparation for a larger one.

i like just a Bo5 on BW better

on another note, for maps you can just use maps that are on both games (like LT and fighting spirit and some other BW ports) and have the map order preset. BW -> SC2 maps are usually better than all blizzard maps anyway lol

Both ideas sound awesome but you would need good competitive games for option B.

I guess I'm in if you do something of the sort, sounds pretty cool. I'm in on Sunday if you plan for this weekend. I think you should mix in games with option B, also it needs a fighting game.

People start suggesting free online games pls, I'm really not a huge gamer so idk many of them.

Also try to avoid huge downloads but I suppose that might be difficult.

-Tempest (real time chess) maybe?
-Quake Live is a good one
-SFIII:3rd Strike, unfortunately it would be illegal for most people, and GGPO doesn't work for me (McGill interwebs )

That's what I've got at the moment, if I think of more I'll add them in.

You'd have to include chess because it's kinda Starcraft's predecessor.
