So yeah, I JUST GOT INTO DIAMOND WOOOOOOOOO!
This, I'm in it.
I know that it's generally accepted that Diamond isn't the haven of super skill. No, I know it isn't. But damn, I wasn't a particularly good BW player. I can't get out of D to save myself (never could) because while some days I'd have my strategies set the way they should, but my macro would be disgusting, or my macro would be awesome, but my micro sucks and my strategy suffers. I just can't seem to get a balance on all three.
But then SC2 beta made it's way into my account (while I was working on a project for the semester, worst time ever) and I got to thinking...
This is not me.
What if I could start over? What if I could be great at this game, even if I probably won't be at the top?
I feel that since the game is new, I won't be bombarded by already mastered strategies and a crazy evolution of a game I used to play pretty casually when I was a teenager. It feels like it's a chance to reinvent myself. Hopefully I don't get cold feet and actually attempt to play some tournaments, even if just to test myself in an environment that's far less forgiving than laddering at home in the afternoon, which I don't do enough of anyway.
But I'm not there yet. I'm just in Diamond (after a pretty nice PvT, for me anyway). I have a long way to go before I'm "good." Who knows? Maybe I'll try some tournaments soon here soon.
So, while you all may think Diamond is a joke, for me it was a goal and I sure as hell had to work for it, and I have achieved that goal. Now it's time to push on further, but I need a new goal...
Hmm...

Congrats, I'm actually currently in plat (sad i know, but i have like a 14-6 record 300 points ish, i don't play multiplayer much.) I'm hoping at some point to really focus on laddering and maybe getting to diamond at some point.

nice visuals and congratulations ;D

i think that since what you want is to be good, your goal should really just be personal improvement. don't worry about your rank, even if you drop back down to plat or something, because as long as you're getting better, mechanically, tactically, and strategically, then you're getting closer to what you want.

I know, but Diamond was a goal for me because unlike so many others who just blow it off, it was actually an effort I had to make to get there. Studying the game, patterns players were going, and reading up on strats and spending a few hours in YABOT just drilling myself.
Now I feel pumped to keep that up. The label of Diamond isn't important, but the fact that the effort it took me individually to get there was.

Nice job man! I remember when I went into diamond, I was feeling the exact same way you were. Don't listen to what anyone else will say, at this point, you ARE "good". You may not be a pro or anything, but your in diamond. Most people aren't in diamond. Thus, you are good.

Even though diamond isn't great, it's still a great stepping stone. You're still better than a boat load of people. Just don't drop down from diamond to platinum and your self esteem will bring you tons of wins.

next goal: top 10 diamond?

If you can actually flex your nuts, i would prefer a blog about that .
Either way, congrat though. Some old guy I read some books of said that everything you do should contain a large helping of impossibility in it. Don't reach for what you know you can do. I mean , just going to a tournament? Well, duh!
Win the damn thing!

Congrats! I have some questions and it would be great if you could share some insights. I lost all my placement matches on purpose and wanted to go from bronze to diamond one league at a time. Right now I'm #1 bronze and I have fairly comfortable wins against mid diamond players but IT WON'T PROMOTE ME! Not even to Silver
Can you tell me if you noticed how the system works? About how fast did you promote?

Gratz bro. I had the exact same feeling of starting over when I first booted up sc2 beta.

I started in Gold I believe (or Silver, don't remember) and I really have no idea. It took longer to get into Plat than it did to get into Diamond. And this over the course of about 40+ games (although I played a shit load of Custom 1v1 games too).
Basically I was just playing ladder. There is no exact truth in the idea that you will only be promoted when you lose, either, because my promotion to Diamond was after a win. I can't really say because I didn't pay huge attention, I just tried to play.
Although I noticed that sometime before getting into Diamond I was playing games with "Team Even," as opposed to "Opponent Slightly Favored." Well, there was at least one today I noticed. I tend to ignore all this since my focus is on the game and improving, not analyzing how their system works. I think it tries to determine where you place by putting you against players who are about as good or better than you from time to time to see if you should get bumped up. But I really wouldn't know.

I got into diamond today, it was a relief. I probably should have been in there a few games before, but I went on a losing streak and tilt, then won a game and got in. Worked my way up from gold, going to go back to playing random now, my goal has been reached.
Gratz btw, and to all those trying to get into diamond, keep working at it!
