So I usually have a bad habit of not being able to control myself when it comes to eating food. I'm not fat, and have never been fat... I exercise and play sports and all that so that's never been an issue for me. The real issue though is just not being able to exercise self control when it comes to eating, so I decided this month to challenge myself.

I've made the following my goals:
- no red meat for the month of april
- no pasta or noodles for the month of april
- don't eat ice cream
- generally cut down on carbs

Those four things are probably my biggest vices when it come to eating, especially pasta. I eat insane amounts of pasta (my favorite food). For example, eating 3/4th of a pound of pasta in one sitting for me is absolutely no problem, and if I wanted I could probably finish off the whole 1lb package. And I usually eat pasta anywhere from 1-3 times per week, so you can see how much pasta I consume (a lot). Same thing with noodles.

Anyways so while the health benefits will (hopefully) be noticeable over this 1 month period, the interesting part for me is just the challenge of controlling myself enough to follow through. It's all part of a big long process of self improvement, and developing this skill is one of my biggest challenges. I figured starting off with food (relatively easy) would be a good start.

So far I've made it exactly 7 days and have kept my word. Tomorrow (well, today as I'm writing this blog) is day 8! Hope I can post an update at the end of the month and say I've kept my promise to myself.

Isn't it not so much cutting everything but balancing your diet, so reduce your carbs and red meat but increase fruit, veges etc.

EDIT: Also isn't the amount of food you eat proportional to the amount of physical activity you do?

yea probably, but again it's mostly just a personal challenge rather than entirely being for health reasons. I mean, I eat fairly healthy in general, I don't particularly over-consume red meat nor do I gorge on ice cream and super fatty foods... I just want to see if I can build the self control necessary to stop myself from getting a scoop of ice cream or cooking pasta, etc.

Excess carbs will make you fat. I eat rice practically everyday, must cut down on it. Though, I have a nice supply of steak, chicken breast and lean turkey in the fridge, still have to get at least 1 bowl of rice a day.

There are alternate sources of fat and protein (nuts, cheese, eggs) though I tend to agree they're less delicious than meat.
My strategy is to fork people.

What exactly is it about East Asian genetics which allows them to eat rice with every meal of every day and keep the build of an anorexic eleven year old Jewish girl from Brooklyn?

Not true but that just depends on your daily intake. Fats and protein can provide enough energy for your body. You could just consume mostly protein every week and maybe dedicate 1 day to more carbs, it works well.

edit: Carbs arent essential but we tend consume a lot more than our body needs. Lay off the white bread and flour stuff(Guilty myself, Jasmine rice!).

I seriously don't understand why you need to cut down on carbs unless you are having potato sandwiches, rice and pasta every single day. Your body needs them and yes you will lose weight if you stop eating them, but that is just the water going away that used to be in your muscles, no actual reduction in fat iirc.

I was grinning at your example, Im from BK. I know what your talking about. I think it has to do with the ratio of the type of food we consume daily. My family lived in a suburban area in China back then, the theory is relatively simple.

We consume more grains and vegetables than the American counterpart, which would probably have a much higher intake of meat in their diet.

edit: I guess its in our genes, we're just so adapt to the high carb/low fat diet(Isnt that the atkins diet or whatever its called?). Honestly though Im not even sure since that theory itself is flawed because it doesnt revolve around the more modern demographics.

I eat a holy living fuckton of rice with my meals and I'm not fat, but I think this is because of a few factors:

1. My favourite meal is rice and fish and cabbage. That's it, I could eat this everyday, no problem. So most of my meals look similar to this - rice, some kind of fish, some kind of vegetable.

2. I don't use any condiments at all, no ketchup, no salt, no pepper, nothing. I've never developed a taste for them.

3. I don't eat sugar because I don't like sweets. Never have.

4. I only drink water, nothing else. Sometimes I might drink a Red Bull.

5. I can't really eat breakfast because I just don't feel like eating after I wake up, so I'll just eat a banana or an apple or something. Then I won't eat anything until the late afternoon.

6. I walk everywhere.

7. I have no self-esteem, so I'm constantly filled with self-hatred and this motivates to go to run on a treadmill at a fitness center sometimes.

I'm not Asian, I am German (as in, both of my parents are actual German-speaking German people, not Americans) but it seems like I've inherited their palette - both of my parents eat like this, too.

So yeah.

You are wrong. Learn why:

To say that I'm missing the point, you would first have to show that such work can have a point.
