EPTWhat I claim to be doing is saying nothing about balance, mechanics, game feel, or anything else that might interest anyone.
I played about 10 games sober which I won, and then about 10 games drunk which I lost (in large part). I'm not going to go into the nitty gritty. Instead I intend to present impressions (you've seen this before!).
I play zerg. I play protoss a bit more. I have played 1 terran game. I wish I could play more terran because the music is so pimp. As zerg I have a lot of trouble vs zerg. It seems to me like the old metagame exists to some degree. Fast pool builds are viable. I haven't seen fast hatch builds be viable but I have tried like a total dumbass (that queen is your second hatch, aint it). Still, the "all roaches, no fun" thing people have been saying isn't correct. It can be preempted by 'lings. The 10 pool in zvz is viable.
In ZvT I've been enjoying a successful lings/banelings opening. I get my second hatch in main if the expo isn't close or readily available for other reasons (quick second hatch is clutch), and I pump lings and banelings while I expand. I usually win with ling/baneling, but sometimes it requires upgrades. I don't get ling speed automatically if it's not desert oasis (long distance) to save some money, but I do pay attention to upgrades, making sure to get speed for both lings and banelings when I hit lair. Of course I get burrow. It's pimp.
Versus protoss I tend to be more freestyle. I like to bust out lings, early expo, and roaches without warning. The matchup gives zerg a lot of early game options, and you'd be a fool not to use them.
I enjoy protoss. I would like to play them for warp in. Period. That is such a sick mechanic. The proxy pylon is absolutely key, and without it I wouldn't be tempted to play anything but zerg.
I played one game as terran. I went mass thors but I can't claim it wasn't sloppy as hell. first and only game as terran so far. I played them to crank the music and enjoy the awesomeness. I also got a somewhat funny ending to the game. He was holed up in his base and nat on desert sands (I think... I mean the 2 player) and he was facing a map entirely taken with thors and ravens being pumped to his choke. He says "Ok, come kill me." I say "I know a cheat code." He says "huh?" I say "You press one button twice and you get out of the game easy." "Lol."
Ok. I realize now that I have typed this that I have nothing interesting to say. Of course that means I will post this regardless. I have felt the pain of the betaless and I now know the feeling of the dude who temptingly blogs to pain the unfortunates. I apologize.
EDIT: I looked at this among the threads of the blogs forum and realized that it's total bullshit. I didn't mean it to be anything more than bullshit, but mods can feel free to close this because of its repetitive fuckiness.
EDIT 2: I should have just said I will be interested, at long last, in the SC2 strategy forum. I fully appreciate how much jealousy this will generate.
