I've just read quite interesting article, showing the details of a case of an Open Source developer against a company. The article describes the whole process briefly (mere 2 pages of text) but provides links to additional resources (including testimonies). It's a nice read for everyone, the twists and turns of this story would make for a good movie and it should be especially interesting for all of you who are into legal stuff (law students and practicioners especially) as it shows a lot of details associated with the case.

Without further ado:

Could you give the basic points being argued so I can evaluate whether or not I should read it?

Quite interesting precedent set there. I like it.

First paragraph of the article:

A manufacturer who attempted to collect royalties from an Open Source developer has lost two patents. As terms of his settlement with the developer, the manufacturer is paying $100,000 to the Open Source developer, has agreed to place himself under a permanent injunction, and has signed a release of any liability to all members of the Open Source project. The case was not “sealed” like so many settled cases, so its documents are available to the public now.

Time is precious. Waste it wisely.

I fucking hate the justice system. It's such a garbled ball of shit. I'm glad he got a settlement out of it, but he still came out behind if you ask me.

Wow, SLAPP is the most retarded shit I have ever heard of. At least the justice system correcfted its initial fail in this case. Would've been terrible otherwise... definitely a recommended read.

Another nice thing about it is the fact it hasn't been "sealed" as the author calls it. Otherwise we would probably never know about it.
