If you were to get a better GPU, have to replace the MOBO. Im sure that would be fine.

I'd hold out for awhile atleast until GF100's hit the ground to push the 5770 and crap down in price the current market isn't that great esp compared to like 6 months ago.

he really wouldn't PCIe 2.0 cards comply with pcie 1.x mobos they just run at pcie 1.x speeds which unless you're running a GTX295 or 5970 which is 2 gpus on 1 slot there is usually plenty of bandwidth.

If your card is overheating, yeah, make sure the heatsink is on nice and TIGHT and making proper contact. If it's still overheating, you can try to use a program to force your fan to run faster and check your temps as a result (I use a program for ATI cards called "rivatuner"). If none of that works, i dunno, you'd want to think about underclocking, if anything. Your card would probably be able to run SC2, but only if it works properly. If something is broken, it would probably be more worthwhile to buy a new card then to put money into buying a new heatsink or something.
I agree with Virtue that you should hold out as long as you can before you buy, though. Wait for SC2 to come out, test it out, then make your decision.

In the $100-$150 range, it's hard to just recommend one card, since you can always try to squeeze out the most bang for the buck depending on what's on sale at the time. See if something looks like a good sale on newegg, look it up on tomshardware, and look up the prices of better-ranked cards to see if they're comparable.

I'm pretty sure that card will be fine for sc2 assuming it is working properly.

The new Nvidia cards will not drive down the prices of the 57xx series.
At that price range there really isn't much of a choice at the moment. It's either 5750/5770/4870/4850
4850 goes for $100, 5750 goes for $130-140, 5770 for $160-170, and 4870 at around $170.
I would stick with your current card if it is running fine tbh

:D it can ATI is still making a good profit margin on those cards and it really depends on nvidia's pricing which should be competitive unless nvidia is lucky enough to get cards that only preform between ATI cards line up and doesn't need direct competition with cards then they might just have high prices all around. But ATI can lower prices and nvidia is just the thing to make them do so.

Yea, I think those are actually the cards that my two main friends have i think. Good to know that they are about 100$.
I think that was good advice to wait until it comes out and see how I do, that's what I was thinking of doing. When are those foreseen price drops supposed to take place?

sorry mate but u only got 2gb of ram at 800mhz each. i think u also need 4gb of ram. ill give an example. I had win xp with 4 gb ram but it was the 32bit so it only saw 3gb (also i got the fast rams 1033mhz or something) and then 3 days ago i switched to windows 7 64bit and call of duty mw2 plays excellent with 1680x1050 and everything at extra high. back when i had win xp it would have low fps even at that so i was playing at 1280x1024. now I think ram plays a huge role in games. oh btw the gfx card i got is the ati radeon 5870, such a crazy beast.i play bioshock 2 in everything maxed its such a nice game.

He runs an older C2D the memory controller is not inside of the CPU like modern cpu's are (AMD has been doing this for years but until i7/5/3 intel has not) older cpu's like that are not so easily swayed in performance by faster or slower ram. As long as hes running it 1:1 or greater on his cpu to ram fsb:ram raito it's cool.

2GB of RAM is fine to run SC2... I never understand why people always overestimate the need for RAM.
A 4850 is probably a good budget option at around $100.
