I have a question...My computer originally came with vista ultimate but I down graded it to xp...
I have 6 GB of ram installed in it but when i'm running xp it only say i have about 3 gb of ram or so...
does anyone know what cause this?
also i'm missing a driver called "beanbag emulation device"
-_-''
I know there are many computer whiz here at tl...please explain...I don't really need 6 gb of ram but I would be nice to have computer recognize i have 6 gigs..

Sounds like 32 bit OS. Need XP x64 (e.g.) to recognize more than the 3 or so you're seeing.

You probably installed 32-bit XP.

Since someone already posted this, I'll try to elaborate a little to make my post more useful:

The absolute maximum RAM alloted by any 32-bit OS is 2^32, and 32-bit Windows OS can only utilize approximately 3.5 GB (around there) of RAM. If you want to use all 6 GB of RAM, you need a 64-bit OS.

I have no idea what beanbag emulation device is

I believe XP is limited to 4 GB. It's strange that only 3 GB show up, are there 2 x 3 GB sticks or something?

That's Vista. I did some Google search, it seems that the OS supports upwards of 4GB of RAM, but application can only see 3.25 gigs.

I know for a fact that Vista supports well more than 4 GB of RAM... XP is an older OS, back when people had 256 or 512 MB only.

edit: actually it looks like 32 vs 64 bit is what makes the difference

Yea, I meant 32-bit Vista (and XP). 64-bit Vista obviously supports much more than 4 GB of RAM

Okay, I think it's slightly different b/w Vista and XP.

*I think*, if you don't see the 64-bit text, then you are running 32-bit.

edit: yea i'm right

so I'm guessing you are running 32-bit, and that should answer your question about the RAM
