Usually, when you apply cologne, the biggest mistake you can make is overapplication. Generally a maximum of two squirts is suggested.
It should be strong enough to be smelled, but only by those that would want to smell it (i.e. those you are immediately interacting with). Some people even say that cologne is something meant to only be smelled by those lucky enough to get very close to you.
Aqua di Gio is an especially nice scent, although it is fairly ubiquitous among my peers (college age). For application, I would suggest either one squirt to the base of the neck above the shirtline, and then immediately rubbing both wrists onto it while it's still slightly damp.
Another option is to stand, shirtless, and spray a squirt or two into the air in front of you, and then walk through the mist. This works to spread the scent more evenly.
If you use the same scent aftershave as you do cologne, it will be even more effective and have more lasting power. I find two squirts of Aqua di Gio usually lasts about 6-8 hours for me, if i don't do a lot of physical activity. You can just ask the people around you how potent the scent is at various time intervals to see what works for you

Further proof to the makers of consumer goods that no matter how self explanatory the use of your product may seem, instructions will always in some cases be required.

Aqua di Gio is pretty common but it's decent!
go for one spray, no more than 2. Spray slightly below your neck, then rub onto your wrists, but don't rub it for too long.

yo man, nice cologne... but 3 sprays is OVERKILL....
you wanna have a faint smell of cologne, just enough so that they get a whiff and try to come closer for a better whiff. maybe 1 spray. you dont want the chick you are eating dinner with to taste your cologne in her fucking meal lol.
i dont even use 1 full spray. i squeeze out a tiny bit, rub it on my fingers, and massage my neck and other areas. trust me its just enough.
