Daft Punk - Homework
Well, before I start, I must tell you, this is my favorite album of all time, from my favorite band of all time. So don't expect any more then gooey gooey ga ga lol they are robots fanboy talk. I try not to sound like an idiot though, and at least their music is good.
Well this album is basically the first house album I ever listened to, and I hold it very close to my heart. I loved it. I listened to it 3-4 times a week for months. Then I sort of got bored of it a couple months ago, and am now just rediscovering all the daft punk songs(can't stay bored of it for long).
For those of you who don't know Daft Punk, you probably have also never heard of electronic music. Daft Punk is one of the most, if not the most sucessful electronic bands of all time. They formed in 1993, after childhood friends Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo attended a rave together, and since "Da Funk," their breakout single from 1995, have been bringing da funk back to da punk, come on!
The album starts off in uber-funk mode, with "Daftendirekt"(recorded live from some gig, originally part of "Da Funk" but didn't make it into the final version), with a very low very filtered vocal. It keeps going through with the funk, through "Da Funk," until it hits "Around the World." After there, while still being funky, it is not quite as funky as the first part and sort of goes into more of a house/rave/acid, more expiremental section of the album(all though not all the rest are like this, it really doesn't get as funky as it started out except for "Teachers" and "Burnin'," the latter also does have the sort of twerpy electronic rave sound in it) with songs with distorted, modulated sounds in songs like "Rollin' and Scratchin'" and "Rock & Roll."
It is simply a fantastic album, and a great example of the great music you can make when not worrying about making your track easy for the DJ to mix into his set. Daft Punk got away from the watered down club-focused formula of house music, and brought back the funk and disco influences, which are necessary to house music.
Recommended for: Anyone willing to have some fun.
