Wow, this does sound pretty awesome. Thanks for the info PR.
I could see how they would decide on the top four, but any idea how they decide who is going to be in fifth/ Will there be a losers bracket to decide?

I\'ve been looking into evidence to support a case that sweden is really the 52nd state of the US. Not much success so far.
Seriously tho, this is really cool but I can\'t help but feel they are 5 years late with this.

would be funny if assem won the election ^_^;

Really great for the american scene, not so much elsewhere; should be good however! Also, as already asked how long will the player stay with estro?
FA has a point; it does feel like this is 5years too late
|
This is cool, if testie goes he gets some company!
But how far from eachother are the CJ and Estro club houses...
|
wow this is assem i mean awesome , on that note i hope assem doesnt get it -.-''

I'm not sure if you were still following the scene, but eSTRO only just recently picked up the Dream Team. As many might know, Hexatron and eNature IMO struggled pretty much to keep the team up (thus not being able to do awesome tournaments like this).
So it isn't too late.

I think he meant that with StarCraft II coming out around the corner and with BW on its declining years, it would've been better if something like this was offered 5 years ago so that the trainees would have enough time amongst the pros to actually accomplish something at the height of the game.

Really nice idea.
I hope Iefnaij wins it, who knows maybe he'll get invited to join eSTRO !
GL Iefnaij !

Artosis vs. LzGamer t>z TheMachine vs. Nony z<p Skew vs. Idra t>p could be finals T_T G5 vs. iNcontroL (after inc performance in wcg ,going for g5 python + peaks p>z) Xiaozi vs. Assem ( assem if he manage to find strong z to practice oo) Dino vs. Schism ( hoping for schism he is talented terr, but p>t ) Iefnaij vs. Nesh (iefnaij 99%) Slog4 vs Evade (prolly slog4)
artosis vs nony (going for artosis cuz he improved lately and nony worst mu is pvt :o) skew vs g5 ( hoping for skew but g5 is stronger on python and tau ) assem vs dino ( people say that dino's best mu is pvt but hope assem crush him ) iefnaij vs slog4 ( iefnaij 99% )
artosis vs g5 (g5 2-1 on tau and peaks) assem vs iefnaij ( assem 2-1 python + peaks)
g5 vs assem if bo3 ? can go either way i think tau for g5 and peaks for assem, python will decide winner

daniel i know you are probably going to read this, even though you probably don't value my opinion:
all the players in this line up have absolutely no talent except assem unless you're being forced to do this by estro... taking them is a terribly bad idea

and a lot of them, while they have drive and dedication, are actually big ego headed fuck heads who like to whine and make excuses even after playing hte game for 7 years...lol

Limiting this to North Americans only seriously puts a dent in the skill level of the tournament.

HOLY CRAP GO SCHISM JF!!
Man if I ever SchiSm on TV playing Starcraft, I'll be so proud. I believe in you BEN!
|
Iefnaij or Xaozi will win imo, probably Iefnaij.
and yeah, to bad this is only for North America ;_;
|
I'm rooting for iNControl
what a nice guy
|
North America is probably the best place for e-sport after China and Korea, business wise. I hope for.. to hell, I know no one -.- Most talented and humble should win a trip
|
so were all these players invited or did some of them have to play in a prelim tour? is there a news on tl.net about these prelim tourneys?

I think you mean late for people who dropped the game. The BW scene is stronger than ever. If the skill difference between koreans non-koreans got bigger its not because non-koreans got worse but because koreans got a lot better (and more of them).

This sounds pretty awesome. To me it shows, Korea is actually aware of the interest in SC progaming and tries to expand the scene to other places besides the homeland =) Who knows, if this catches up (yeah right) it might even be a good boost for Starcraft 2 when it arrives.

unfortunately i have to agree with rek and others that limiting the player pool to the U.S severely drops the skill level overall, especially with the first prize being a ticket to train with estro (presumably with the hopes of producing the next giyom/elky) you'd expect that the player pool would be made as broad as possible
on the flip side, this is a really nice initiative which makes me love estro even more than i already do
|
I dont like this, it seems suspicious, why so suddenly estro would want a foreigner.. i mean, there are good foreigners, but im pretty sure you can as easily find a korean amateur with the exact same skills or maybe better.
This all seem like a publicity stunt to me at the cost of a foreigner dream, to the winner of this: be careful, because they probably will just use you to get publicity and youll end up like Tossgirl or any other girl in any programing team, forgotten.
|

Awesome, the scene is getting bigger and bigger n.n

amen. $500 cash prize from eSTRO...thats pocket change, sounds like a joke to me.
got my money on G5 to take it all
|
the main attraction to this tour is the prize money i dont think anyone except assem would consider playing for estro (maybe xiaozi but he goes to school still i think)
|
if only i didnt blow vs terran
|
I want either G5 or NonY to win. But most likely that either Assem will win. Wish Day[9] was invited though.

How many other people can say they've been progamers? Plus, that's one more interesting story for your grandchildren.

Wow this is cool. :D I wouldn't mind $500. Now I just gotta get some skills. My bets are on Idra.

i haven't loaded starcraft since wcg usa and i definitely won't be playing this sorry to PR who I think organized this. didn't mean to screw you over
and rekrul you can't judge talent when nobody has a good place to practice. though i agree it's likely that whoever goes to korea will accomplish nothing, it's not fair to say nobody has talent. if a talented player from your era started playing the game in 2005, i highly highly doubt he'd be able to set himself apart.

this reminds me of WDT.. kind of..
But GL too all players, especially lefnaij (if thats how you spell it...)

This is Schism,
I'm actually almost 100% inactive right now and I regret that my spot is wasted cause I won't be able to come to this. If I had been asked in advance I would've given the spot to someone else because I have no time to practice given my midterms coming up. Not to mention that my friend's birthday is saturday night.
I guess that if any eSTRO representative/PR/whoever organises this reads this: give my spot to someone else! Maybe Oldy? Bandit? I really don't play anymore. GL to all the others though!
And oh yes, big props for this event. This is great for all the players =) Peace

how do you think assem got his "talent"? through PRACTICE. you got a free shot at progaming because of who your friends were. we now have a tournament where some of us who really want it can earn it and you are trying to sabotage this. you dont actually know everything, sorry.

Oh my God this is funny.
On gg.net you will read, in the main news: "Out of the Top 5 in the tournament, taking place on Sunday 14th of October 03:00 CET, one will be chosen by the eSTRO expert coaching staff."
However here you read 6 PM PST on sunday. When is it? sunday at 3 CET or 18 PST? Cause if it's the latter then I can play in this!
Not that I'll get too excited, apparently dino's a beast
Anyways I guess I'll show up on sunday at 9 PM eastern to see if it's happening. Fuck midterms har har.

Mazor is from Europe, so he probably got the time mixed up. I'll have him update it, but as far as the tourney goes, I will make my own thread and update it with everything so just follow that.
6pm PST on Sunday is the start time.
